Folk Dance

I realized recently that I have soooo many videos of instrumental performances, but I have not shared a folk dance in way too long.  So, to remedy that, here is Mrs. White’s 4th grade class performing the Alabama Gals folk dance.   This is an American Folk Dance.

Catching Up…

I have not been as good about sharing our happenings in music class lately, so I need to catch up on a few things.  First…

 ATTENTION 3RD, 4TH, 5TH GRADERS

Recorder solo project performances will take place the week of May 2nd during regular music class.  Please make sure you are practicing at home.

Now, on to some fun stuff 🙂   My favorite thing is to show you what has been going on in music class.  So here is a brief sampling of some of our recent performances / activities:

KINDERGARTEN – This Old Man

This is one of my favorite counting songs.  It’s such a classic song for children and I’m so happy that I get to teach it to such wonderful students!

4th GRADE – Rain Rain Go Away

A classic little children’s rhyme, but it’s great for adding the right hand to recorder and learning our low E.  It also has a nice orff arrangement to go with it!

5th GRADE – Sing Sing Sing

This is a famous swing standard.  We spend two weeks on this song to put it all together.  In week 1 we learn the melody, the history of the jazz/swing era, and learn the recorder accompaniment.  In week 2, we explore the ipad app garage band and learn how to accompany ourselves using the “smart guitar” portion of the app.  We finish by putting all the pieces together.
