LOTS TO CATCH UP!

Where did January go?!?!?!   Even with the snow days this month there has been some fun music-making going on at Rocky Mount.  Look below for some great performances!

On January 2nd I attended a professional development session where other Cobb County teachers shared some of their favorite strategies and lessons.  I picked up a great new movement round that actually turned out to be quite a challenge for our students (a fun challenge!).  Check out our 5th graders below!

This is the time of year when our Kindergartners get to experience the FULL Orff Orchestra!  We’ve experienced and explored some of the instruments individually throughout the year, but by January we are ready to go to the orchestra and do some fun improvisation!!!

Teaching folk songs and folk dances are both fun and a great way to connect music to our cultural heritage.  “Tideo” is fun and challenging American Folk Dance that I teach to 2nd grade students.  After singing and performing this song, we always stop and learn about the history and significance of the folk dance.
