5th GRADE – we have been composing songs to accompany children’s literature. Below is rap song composed by Mrs. Barton’s class. Next week we will dramatize the children’s stories and create a “mini” musical to perform in class!
4th GRADE – Recently we learned “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” and discuss its origins in 1930’s Africa. We added a dance and non-pitched percussion parts to the performance as well.
3rd GRADE – We have been performing several folk songs and play party games from different cultures this year. Each one has been a vehicle to learn about a different musical element: melody, verse form, rhythm review.
2nd GRADE – We are preparing for our upcoming musical on Oct. 4 at the PTA meeting. This year’s show is called “It’s Showtime.” The music is a lot of fun and we are having a great time learning the songs and our choreography.
1st GRADE – Performing steady beat on our own can be a challenge, but these 1st graders are doing great!!!! We have used several different instrument rotation games to practice and develop our steady beat.
KINDERGARTEN – In just the first month of school we have learned how to echo, copycat/mirror movements, imitate the steady heartbeat of the teacher, and find our proper singing voices. We even had our first visit from Chompy (Mr. G’s puppet helper 🙂 )
