ACTIVITY 1 – MAKE AND PLAY A BAGPIPE RECORDER
1.Make your own Bagpipe Recorder like the one I was playing in the video by following these instructions. There are three ways to make this project
EASY – just a garbage bag and a recorder.
MEDIUM – garbage bag and 2 recorders (1 recorder and homemade drone recorder like mine)
ADVANCED – garbage bag and 3…wait….4 recorders!!! (This is Mr. Hydo, music teacher at Murdock Elementary School).
SOME HELPFUL TIPS!!!!
STEP 2 – After making and practicing how to play your new instrument. Choose any song you already know from the recorder karate list (these are posted in the “Recorder Karate” section of the website) and record it on FlipGrid in the “Recorder Bagpipe” section.

For kindergarten, use any combination of 2 or 4 cards and practice clapping and saying (“long” “short-short”) what you create.

Here is a little insight into our “homeschool” / “work-from-home” world. Be sure to look at yesterday’s post for activities this week and be sure to log into Clever for quicker access to all my content!
If you are using clever for your other classes. I have added links to my homepage as well as to flipgrid (both for recording and a separate link for feedback). I hope this helps you have fewer locations to remember to check!
On Thursday at 10am, I will be hosting a 30 minute chorus rehearsal, using the zoom video conferencing application. I will email the link out to families and post it in Clever as well. I was inspired by the video below. Hearing out students sing each week fills me with joy. This is an experiment, but I hope that giving our children a chance to sing together will fill them with joy and comfort in these unusual times.

Enjoy a fun and happy song to sing and move with today. My dog, Shadow even pops in to say hello!
Mr. Spiess, music teacher at Bells Ferry Elementary School, shared what one of his families did with this song…in case you’re feeling creative, too!
Today’s video is a review of how to get your feedback and comments from me using FlipGrid.
And here is one of some family go noodle time!
If you are a member of the Roadrunner Chorus. Please take a moment today to log into flipgrid with the below information. Then choose one of the topics from the dropdown box and send me video! Continue practicing and reviewing the material from Monday’s post 🙂
We’ve had some great activities for all this week. I’ve even had my children testing them out at home!
The Berlin Philharmoniker is one of the most famous orchestras in the world and they are offering a free 30-day pass to their digital concert hall. Use the link below and follow their directions to redeem the free 30-day pass before March 31. You will have access to live and recorded concert performances as well as lots of other great content! Enjoy!
https://www.digitalconcerthall.com/en/home?a=bph_webseite&c=true
Please continue with Monday’s activities. Grades 3-5 should continue with Recorder Karate and Flipgrid. Grades K-2 should revisit their rhythm flash cards and continue to practice their rhythms.
I just wanted to remind students and families that I will be posting new content each day. The content I post will vary from day-to-day. I might offer a fun video or website for you to check out, I might share something for the chorus, and I might share some grade-specific activities. These are meant to be suggested resources for you and your students while they are at home. I hope you will find something that your students enjoy and will help them stay engaged with educational and musical content.
CHROME MUSIC LAB – https://musiclab.chromeexperiments.com/Experiments
This is a fun website with several easy-to-use music activities. They include composition, science, and even art connections. My favorite is the “song maker” where you can literally paint your song on the screen on then press play.
Please continue with Monday’s activities. Grades 3-5 should continue with Recorder Karate and Flipgrid. Grades K-2 should revisit their rhythm flash cards and continue to practice their rhythms.
I have started a flipgrid for the roadrunner chorus. I have emailed the log-in directions to the choir parents.
Check back each day for new content! My hope is for students/families to explore, experience, and have fun!
These activities are not “graded assignments” but rather suggested resources and activities. It is not necessary to complete every activity or use every resource. I will try to post some different ideas and activities while we are out of the building in hopes that each student will find something that excites them along the way.
With today being the first day of digital learning, I wanted to get some content up for each grade level. Feel free to email me with any questions along the way: Andrew.Geocaris@cobbk12.org
SPECIAL NOTE – If you need help with your student’s cobb county login or password call the county help desk at 770-426-3330.

ACTIVITY 1 – Make your own percussion instrument
A percussion instrument is anything that you can hit, shake, or scrape to make sound. Use household items to make an instrument that you can play in one of these ways. A simple idea is to tape two cups together and put rice inside them to make a homemade maraca.
Download your grade-level rhythm patterns below and practice saying and playing them on your homemade instrument.

ACTIVITY 2 – Movement / GoNoodle
Visit www.gonoodle.com and explore their selection of music and movement activities. Pick 1-2 songs to perform as a family. Remember to sing along in your best singing voice. In music class we talk about the difference between singing and shouting. Singing is a gentle and beautiful voice, and shouting is the voice we use outside on the playground.
